The Supporters of Tuesley Farm Campaign

There are over 30 houses on the boundary of the farm, or very close to it. A few of these houses were built on land once owned by the farm, and are surrounded on 3 sides by land now owned by Hall Hunter.

Harry Hall has been heard to say that the objectors to his farm are a handful of millionaires and ‘toffs’. That is complete rubbish.

The supporters include a neighbouring farmer, retired people on fixed incomes and families with children on average incomes living in modest houses. Over 70 families have contributed to the legal fund. The inquiry was only due to last 3 or 4 days, but it dragged on over a period of 9 months, and the costs rose well above initial estimates. By the end of the inquiry the residents had raised over £50,000 towards the costs of barristers and experts to represent them. This is not a case of two or three individuals with deep pockets backing this campaign, it has been a genuine community effort. Raising this amount of money has not been easy but the mutual support and spirit of co-operation this little community has shown is remarkable. Some of the people who have contributed do not live next to the farm and are not that badly affected but they wanted to contribute to help their neighbours and protect other parts of this borough. The residents know that if the Halls succeed here it will only be a matter of time before they buy farms in even more sensitive landscape areas within the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Tuesley Farm Campaign has got the support of the Campaign for the Protection of Rual England (CPRE), Surrey
